It was our 3rd year attending the Tampa Tattoofest at the Manatee Convention Center in Palmetto Fl. Our Boothmates this year once again were Mark Longnecker from Endless Summer Tattoo in Coco Beach fl and On Point Ink in Jacksonville Fl.
We did our usual tampa routine – lunch at the “the Pub“, check into the hotel then off to the convention to get set up
The Convention was alot of fun – tattooing, music, food and suspension shows. Got tattooed by Bowery Stan Moskowitz – got to hang with him and Crazy Philadelpia Eddie….Heard some amazingly funny stories – would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall during their haydays!! 1st night of the Siesta Inn Tiki Bar after party was dj’d by the one and only DJ Longneck! We spent most of the nights after the convention hanging with friends Tony Olivas, Loko T, Phillip and Crew from Lucky Draw Tattoo. The stories from the tiki bar will be told for many years to come!!
We missed our flight on Sunday Night and because of the tornado warnings on Saturday we couldn’t get out until tuesday morning, so we drove out to Clearwater and got a room at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. We checked out the spa as well as the Tequila Sunrises and Rum Runners at their Tiki Bar…Yes!!
It’s been a crazy month or so around here. Shanghai Kate Hellenbrand Visited the shop in Boston for a week and a half. We were blessed to have her, the knowledge and history that’s in her head is absolutely mind blowing – Everything from Sailor Jerry, Ed Hardy, Mike Malone to the ancient history of tattooing. We got a private edition of the voodoo to vogue lecture that she had given at Columbia University
It’s just about time to head down to Tampa, Fl. again to attend Tattoofest for the 3rd year with Mark Longnecker and the Endless Summer crew. If you’re in the Tampa Florida area and would like to get tattooed by Carissa, e-mail her at wavenpave@yahoo.com for appointments. We always have a blast in tampa, if you’re going to the show, swing by the booth and say hi!
On Friday February 21st we’ll be having a Tattoo Nation Movie viewing at the shop hosted by one of the movies stars and guest artist for the week Shanghai Kate Hellenbrand. We will start at 7pm and there will be beverages and snacks served. After the movie Kate will give her lecture “from voodoo to vogue”.

Pili Mo’o‘ was trained by the One” who will radically changed his life, the worldwide known Samoan Tatau Master, recognized as “The master of the Masters” “Sua Sulu’ape Paulo II” who took him under his wing almost 5 years. He taught him not only how to use the traditional tools, but how to build them, and the Philosophy of what he used to call “His Way of Life”. He gave to Mo’o the deepest Spirit of this philosophy until his tragic end in 1999. Transforming Mo’o as his “last pupil” , making him the keeper of the tools and philosophy, he asked him to continue the way he opened. Mo’o was accepting endless invitations to tattoo conventions and keeping alive this ancestral art, honoring his mission to move it all over the world still keeping in mind his “father’s” request to change his name from Mo’o to “Pili Mo’o” : the “Samoan Lizard”…
Pili Mo’o will not fail with the promises made to his “Father” and will not stop traveling. Having attended more than 300 tattoo conventions, disclosing the art of Tatau, delighting the public of 5 continents with this art, and giving seminars, he received other prestigious awards, defending with fervor and faith, the Spirit of his “Father’s Way of Life”, which now became his own, and his mission, Pili Mo’o was called to Samoa in 2001 by Sua Sulu’ape A. Petelo, now chief of the Sulu’ape Family to proudly receive the title of : “te Tufunga ta Tatau Sulu’ape Pili Mo’o”. Also being accepted and recognized as a Samoan Matai and Tatau master.
