Tattoos and the meanings behind them | Bostons Best Tattoos

Last February Wave n’ Pave donated some gift certificates for tattoos at a benefit concert for a friend who was killed by a drunk driver.  That friend was Chris “Rover” Rybicki.

Rover was a talented musician who played in a few local bands, No Choice, Point 04 and most notably Unearth.  Rover lived life on his terms and always had a great time doing so.  That is where the paralell begins between the tattoo and how the customer wound up here. The recipient of one of those gift certificates – Mike S. recently came in for a tattoo by owner artist Carissa Bonilla one of Boston’s best tattoo artists.  The tattoo was of the Oakland Raiders logo, a memorial tattoo for Raiders owner Al Davis who had recently passed.

Mike, a lifelong fan of the Raiders, but a lifelong resident of New England – this was confusing to me, so I decided to dig a little deeper.  Why the Raiders and why Al Davis – being from New England?  The answer was pretty simple – Al Davis had a renegade image, did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted or very simply he lived life on his own terms. That was the thing that drew Mike in as a fan of the Raiders, a fan of the type of music Rover played and made Al Davis such an influential figure.  We were very happy to make mike happy and be able to help to raise some money for Rovers family.

Radness!!

So Summer is officially over, but we’re embracing the fall.  Apple picking, pumpkins, halloween, foliage and hopefully some fall surf!! It’s a wonderful time of year…it’s what makes New England what it is.  Besides all that jazz we’ve been working hard at the shop tattooing, painting and drawing up some fancy artwork for your viewing and tattooing pleasure.

Boston’s Best Tattoo Artists Learn new Tricks at Tattoo Convention

The team at Wave n Pave headed to the Boston Tattoo Convention this past week.  It was great to see all of the college students back in the city as they bring a great energy to our awesome city.

Amanda Abbott, one of Boston’s best tattoo artists, had a booth at the Convention.  She had an awsome time, working with some great people doing some radically fancy tattoos. Take a look at some of the tattoo designs that Amanda

We were lucky enough to get a visit with her on Sunday of the Boston Tattoo Convention to see some of the radness in person. We checked out some amazing work at the convention, got some sick books, limited tee’s and prints by tattoer Myke Chambers, Good times!

The Man in the grey suite

So, i was out catching some fun little long period swell the other day at Winthrop beach. The sun was shining, barely any wind, no crowd – a good time for catching some waves with the sup. The birds were going after some school fish who were awfully close to the surface, seemed kinda early for the Bluefish to be in, but whatever. The harbormaster was cruising around all over the place while i was out, which is also unusual but again….whatever. On my way home i noticed news helicopters flying around the Winthrop beach area, and then my phones buzzes. Al who i’d been staring at the tiny waves rolling in waiting for the tide to back off a bit texts me “shark sighting in winthrop”. HA i though, nice one…a shark in winthrop. i got home and saw this. Guess that answers why the fish were jumping and why the harbormaster was cruising around

shark sighting in winthrop? oh yeah!

Surf-Sun-Tattoos-Fun

Been a crazy couple of weeks here in East Boston.  We’ve had Hurricane Irene, a earthquake. a acid spill at Deer Island and a shark sighting in Winthrop.  We’ve been tattooing like mad and the insanity will continue.  Amanda will be tattooing at the Boston Tattoo Convention and Keith will be in Cali for the upcoming week.  Here are some pics from the last week or so, enjoy!

Irene

While hurricane irene didn’t deliver here in the boston area it didn’t stop local surfer Eddie T from shredding a few waves here on the northshore

New England Hurricane Swell

As hurricane Irene approaches New England or more specifically the Boston area i just want to remind everyone to be safe and prepared for the storm ahead. With that being said, us as surfers are excited as hell for a hurricane swell, anticipating like a child on christmas eve. As i write this surfers all over the area are stripping their boards of wax and rewaxing, checking fins, leashes, buying extra leashes getting all their gear prepared because in our minds the swell that is coming will no doubt be the most amazing swell of our lives!! When in reality we’ve anticipated so much, daydreamed for the last week about giant perfect waves that it could never, ever live up to the expectations that we’ve made. We will however have surf and it will be good and it will be big and it will be FUN.               So everyone have fun and be mindful of others.  There will be people in the water who maybe aren’t very experienced in being in larger surf and dealing with all the other aspects of larger surf (currents, etc), so keep an eye out for anyone struggling out there, be safe and have fun.
